For some reason the texture of the water made my mind think ice cream so hence your title. This image is actually 2 shots taken about 7 min and 6" apart. I wanted the right water movement and in shooting like crazy when the water rushed in I had to move my tripod a bit once.
The image was trying to capture the crazy huge waves splashing over the rocks, scaring me each time with the amount of water running around in the foreground. Hopefully I'll have another chance to capture this scene again before the waves disappear for the summer
P.S. This was scary as shite! 25ft waves crashing in. What a rush!
I've seen many pictures taken with this style before, but your "Sundae Sunset" is particularly brilliant.
First of all I do like the colours. They're so light and pure that that sunset seems a sunrise instead. Moreover, I find the different colour temperatures very well mixed, which is a feature I always appreciate.
The lines are also finely balanced; the Horizon is not at the centre of the frame and the black rock well defines where sand and water decide to leave from each other in a angry rush... Closer to the observer's eye there is another, lighter in colour, rock that makes the scene more dynamic.
Finally, I appreciate the way you used shutter speed and aperture to obtain stillness and movement at the same time... so well that the great wave on the left side of the pic seems like a cloud in the sky.
Just as I've already said, the only "beauty spot" of this shot may be its originality but the effort and vision worth it. A very good try overall... and very creamy title!
