There are some places that are difficult to do justice too. Polihale is one of them. This HUGE beach is the largest in Hawaii and at the westernmost part of Kauai. Massive sea cliffs which end (or start depending on travel direction) the Na Pali coast dwarf all that camp there. Polihale translates to House of Po, as the spirits would jump off the cliffs into the Hawaiian afterworld, Po.

While photographing under the setting moon I noticed one of the frames in my camera had the milky way in it...then looked up and realized the setting moon was low enough to reveal the stars above!

I ran down to the ocean's edge where I had photographed this type of shot at sunset and started clicking away.

This is 8 vertical images, 30s each with a file size of 70" and 1gb! The moon was almost full and about in inch (2.7cm if converting :P) and gave enough light to illuminate the landscape while still allowing the milky way to shine through.

I have had a very hard time coming up with a title for this and It is an ode to the mythology of the place :) Still not completely sold on it...but we'll see what you all think!

One of the most beautiful shots I've seen, EVER!. It looks like the mountain is separating the day and the night, and the stars are turning around over it. The technique is superb. As I can see from your description, it took a great amount of time and work to take this one, and you managed to create this wonderful pano with mastery skill.

All the details are visible in the scene, from the footsteps in the sand, to the clouds at the bottom left, to the gorgeous night sky and the texture of the cliff.

There's really no suggestion I could make on this one, as it's simply stunning. I'd have called it, "Cliffs of timeless light", as you certainly can't tell if it's day or night ;).

Thanks for sharing this outstanding piece with us.

Awesome job dude, did you have any trouble stitching with star trails?

I was surprised but there was no issues w/ the stars in the blend...just the sand as i cant keep level as i pan apparently.

p.s. star trails are long exposures...these are stationary ;)

I realise that... but if each exposure was 30s like you said, surely the stars must have shifted some from the 1st shot to the last!?
