Polihale Explosion

Having family come to visit can be quite fun. Gives an opportunity to play tour guide and get to places that we sometimes take for granted or maybe just don't go explore as much as we should. On this particular day I had my parents and gr
andmother with me, showing them the western side of Kauai. Making our way up Waimea Canyon the clouds looked pretty crazy and mentioned we might be in for a good sunset that night.

Heading down and then out to the remote, Polihale State Park on the western reaches, the clouds continued to be promising. As the sun set the colors popped a bit but hopes were high...and almost on command the cirrus started to change...orange, red...BOOM! Sky exploded.

There's not too much interest on this end of the beach so used the reflection of the color in the water and went with the simple composition using the lines of the clouds. Ni'ihau can be seen back left off in the distance.

Needless to say I was stoked to share this sunset with my family
