Lava Study I by aFeinPhoto-com Lava Study I by aFeinPhoto-com
An incredible night in Oct '09 out on the lava field on the Big Island. Truly powerful experience. The scale isn't apparent here but the rock here is about 20' tall. Full sensory overload photographing here.

2 shots for dynamic range....and a crapload of processing to get it decent. 30x45 metal print going in to aFeinberg Gallery Poipu!

Thanks for the c/c!

Already have it at 24x36 but completely reworked the file...which took forever. I think the exif is always embedded on dA here so you can see it on the side...70-200 maybe w/ 1.4x on. thanks :)

Beautiful. :)

I had that same problem with mine for a while. It took alot of trial and error with my settings to get things to upload and look like they should.

It's just in FF and my color management is enabled so it's even more confusing. Grr :-P Glad you like the shot though

Wasn't it super hot, being so close like that ? :O_o:
Anyway, I am impressed. I already had doubts before, but I am starting to think you are the no-fear-guy-with-the-camera.:)

Actually not hot, just scary. We were on the cliff across from the flow. The issue is that the waves are constantly undermining the cliff and every now and then the whole bench will collapse. If you notice this is shot at 280mm so probably about 100yds from the entry. The previous other lava upload was much warmer.

Oh yea, the plume of toxic fumes...gotta look out for that too :-P

Alright, let me rectify then: you are the crazy-no-fear-guy-with-the-camera... ;p
Seriously though I didn't know about the fumes. (Well, may be I did once and forgot).

I saw your contest entry, by the way. :shamrock:Good Luck:shamrock: :)

If you look at Lava's March the plume in the bg is the steam/vapor/gas from the lava hitting the ocean. If it blows the wrong way you can end up w/ acid rain falling on your head.

And for the record...def not no fear...freakin scary out there. Powerful experience. :-)
