Note: Firefox 3.6 is out...and now photos look correct.

On Kauai's south shore, in Poipu the sun still sets over the ocean. There is endless opportunity to shoot seascapes down there and I ventured on the rocks (carefully) last week. It is always difficult to balance getting a great action shot w/o getting pummeled but this was far less scary then it looks. Though I did run away twice.

I tried a new technique on this one which I will not say but rather have you all guess to see if it's noticeable. :)

Thanks for the c/c!

aF

The tones from warm to cold are more than beautiful, and I also like the fizzy water on the right :)

beautiful ... i really like that all of the colors are so natural ... many "wow-scapes" have some very unnatural coloring to them

How did I miss this one, damn spectacular light mate! Lovely compo, loving the darkness to it, but you've still managed to keep a little bit of fill light in the blacks. Impressive.

A perfect shot indeed, the color of the water in the far front of the picture looks amazing and all the blue in the picture contrasts well with the bright, warm colors of the sun.
A really good shot.

Do you edit your photos or is it this beautiful there? If its the latter I would really enjoy a vacation where ever this is.

Cant fake Kauai...but all photos are edited using normal digital darkroom techniques and occasionally blending to maintain dynamic range.

Hi!

I've been trying to get into similar landscape photography. Would you have any tips for me?

I love it by the way :)

Too broad a question but appreciate the effort. I learned by looking at other people's photos and finding out why I liked them and how to reproduce. Posting to forums for critique is a great way too (fredmiranda.com naturephotographers.net etc)

Rock and roll!

I always have difficulty in getting a shot with a longer exposure. From your camera's metadata I see that my problem is that I need to set the f stop higher.
Good idea setting the sun to the side and not the middle.

Different water speeds need diff water. But yes, closing down aperture gets longer ss :)

If it wasn't for the fact that its an action shot, I'd say this was HDR.

Whatever you did, this is amazing, the colours are incredibly vibrant and everything just looks so... amazing.

I hope I'll be as good as this one day.
