Bit of a backstory. Was on the south shore like usual last Weds and went to explore an area I hadnt been to yet. The winds were NUTS! Easy 30-40mph...but at my back. There also was a bit of a south swell which as it hit certain areas would pop up these huge splashes all along the coast. I found an area that I could see the setting sun w/o getting drenched w/ spray from the coast behind. Extra wide tripod stance and holding everything down. Then wait....

To overcome my lack of filters and cameras poor DR I bracketed this which mean I had to blend in the sky w/o messing up the splash too much. A bit tricky but a good first edit I think. I have the shot right after this in which the splash becomes a big ball of water but a friend and I decided to go w/ this one as it had more mystery to it...and yes...I was dry

Much thanks for the c/c!

Wonderful capture of action! The wave looks like a bomb exploded underneath or perhaps a magical spell. Either way it has almost a ghostly beauty.

Nice capture! I just got back from Maui and the wind was crazy there! The last day, as we were leaving, it decided to be calm. Go figure. :hmm:

I had a wonderful time! We snorkeled 4 different days, rode the ziplines, went on a whale watching tour, did the road to Hana, and ate lots of good food! :D

Just curious cause that cam is waterproof. One day i will have something completely sealed like that and i can really get in some crazy places. I am constantly amazed what this XSi will take.

I like to be as close as possible. Fell off a waterfall two trips ago. dented my steel tripod but managed to fall down while the camera was in its bag. Lucky.

Close is fine of course...but close and safe is better. Check out "el tigre"...my tripod was hanging OVER the falls :)

It's a better approach, I think, to be guided by the record of the moment, rather than to edit than record in the light of some pre-conceived notion of what the image should look like.

The star burst effect of the crashing wave shows us something no usually visible to us because of the speed of the unfolding event.

A remarkable image.
